Howard Wool  Founder & CEO

Early life and education

Howard Wool grew up in New York as a typical child of the 1950s, playing stickball in the streets and running around outside until dusk – just as we see in the old movies.  In high school, he completed 7th, 8th and 9th grades in two years due to an accelerated program offered by his high school. After this, he became an undergraduate at Hofstra University, New Paltz State College where he studied biology. Over 25 years later he became a student again and earned a degree in Law from Touro College in New York.

Environmental Safety Incorporated and lean business principles

In 2005, Howard Wool began his second business, Environmental Safety Incorporated. He has been offering high quality industrial chemicals and cleaners to clients at a competitive price more than twelve years.

This time around Wool abandoned the expensive corporate offices and all those employees. He operates from an office above his garage in Calverton, also known as Baiting Hollow Station on Long Island and employs a secretary, a part-time receivables clerk and a person to generate sales.  Less overhead costs translate into savings for clients and a better bottom line for the company.

This time he also realized the importance of a hands-on approach instead of relying on others to grow the business. He is involved in all aspects of operations – including sales. He has learned the value of outsourcing non-strategic aspects of the business to spend his time most effectively.

Howard Wool makes sure he relates directly to those who are most important – employees, clients, suppliers, and new business prospects. He develops a real and lasting relationship with them, and he believes this is one of the main reasons for his success. He has a personal interest in the family life and well-being of his clients rather than just supplying them with products. This has resulted in a loyal customer base. The consistent seven-figures sales his company makes year after year testifies to the success of this strategy.

Wool is always ready to help clients who cannot find solutions to problems. He will research until he finds an answer for them.  Larger companies are unable to offer this kind of personal attention to clients. When he finds a solution to a client’s problem, he has gained a client for life.

In his 40 years in the business, Wool has become a respected pioneer and leader in his industry. It has taken many years of hard work to establish his reputation and develop a company that can compete with the major players. He has grown Environmental Safety Incorporated into one of the most successful industrial chemical suppliers in New York State.

Leisure time and personal interests

When Howard Wool is not working, he loves to spend time playing classic rock from the 60’s and 70’s and teaching himself to play on his Hammond B3 rock organ. He likes to think of himself as an old rock and roll soul, and the Beatles is his favorite band.

He believes in staying active, and until recently he played softball and bowling. These days he keeps healthy with his 4 am daily visit to the gym.

He’s a father of three grown children and has five grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games and participating in crafts with his grandchildren.

Howard has come a long way, worked hard and is currently enjoying the rewards with his family and friends in Baiting Hollow.
